It’s About Timing

After a few years in B2B enterprise sales, one pattern keeps repeating itself. Strong solutions lose. Average ones win. And surprisingly often, the difference has very little to do with the product itself.

It’s about timing. Or, more precisely, momentum.

“Budget starts in January” – on paper

Yes, most companies run on a January–December fiscal year. And many sales teams assume that January is when buying really starts.

In reality, January and February are something else entirely.

Closing last year. Reporting. Audits. Internal explanations. Political cleanup. The organization is looking backward.

Money technically exists. Attention does not.

March to June is where next year is shaped

Things change somewhere around March. Not abruptly – but noticeably.

Between March and June, organizations quietly decide what will matter next year:

  • which initiatives are worth backing,
  • which problems deserve budget,
  • which vendors are “serious”,
  • and which ideas get parked early.

This is not contract season. This is budget influence season.

If your solution isn’t part of these early conversations, it often never becomes one – no matter how good it looks later.

August locks things in

From August onward, budgeting becomes formal. And constrained.

New initiatives suddenly feel risky. Every extra euro needs a reason. And anything without an internal sponsor starts to slip.

That’s why so many autumn sales cycles end with: “Let’s revisit this next year.”

Which usually means: the window has already closed.

Momentum beats perfection

The strongest enterprise sales teams don’t sell when budgets are available. They sell when priorities are still fluid.

March to June isn’t about closing. It’s about shaping the future deal before it officially exists.

And in enterprise sales, that moment matters more than the pitch.

If you’re wondering whether your organization is influencing the right conversations early enough – or missing that critical March–June window – it’s worth talking it through.

Reach out to Tomek Majka – our RGM Head of Sales – and see how your current approach aligns with real enterprise buying cycles.

Sometimes, one conversation at the right moment changes the entire pipeline.
